I'm Too Young To Be Getting Old

Do you remember all of those memories
Back then
Back when
Us kids would dream of everything
We think now is impossible
What's not possible?
Earth is a star spinning in place
Set up somewhere in this colossal thing we call "space"
Do we even know where we are?
I'm still young
You're still young
It doesn't matter the age
1 to 101
Who cares what anyone thinks about anyone?
Who cares if I want to be an Astronaut
The President of The United States
What if I wanna be like
James Dean or Bill Gates
What if I want to invent a song
And have the world sing along
Or set out on a boat and sail all the oceans and seas
I'd watch the dolphins and feel the waters cool breeze
I'll build sky scrappers that hit the moon
And give everyone the chance to see different shades of blue
I'm gonna go out and help the poor
Get them off the streets and into some warmth
Because I'm too young to be getting old
My Parents and Grandparents and Great Grandparents
Are too young to be getting old
Songs I used to sing are growing dust
And the DJ's categorize them in their eras genres
Events that seemed like they just happened
Are shown in documentary 3D screens in my renovated High School
The streets black top that I used to play ball on
Has cracks of gray with black rubber stripes to help them heal and bond
I look at my poems of the past and feel all those feelings that were in my head re-enter again
And the nights dreams I would have after I put down my pen and pad
My writings are growing longer
And I seem to fade away from the past
About my love of the moon, the stars, and the sky
About the girls that I wrote about that I thought would last
I don't write as often as I did
And that's what I'm talking about
I'm too young to be getting old
My thought process has shifted
Will I ever get back to the days where I would just sit in the back
And glance at the sky for hours
Or the Friends that I'd see everyday even after school hours?
Well, I think I've said too much
And endings of poems always take me a while to think of
So I'll just end with this
Remember the past but look forward to the future
And tell your story
The one that history has never told
Even if you're one hundred and one years of age
Because everybody is too young to be getting old
